Over 2,500 companies from the whole of the Federal Republic of Germany were nominated, but only some 50 of these have made it: they are the finalists for the much sought after German Economics Prize "Grand Prix of small and medium-sized businesses", the so-called "Blue Chips", the top companies in the country. Amongst these: ATB Umwelttechnologien GmbH from Porta Westfalica. The main prize-giving took place on 10 September 2005 with celebrations at the Cologne Maritim Hotel.

"Healthy small and medium-sized businesses - strong economy - more jobs" was and is the motto of the Oskar-Patzelt Foundation, an initiative of some 150 personalities from industry, administration and politics, who have made it their task to give recognition to and express appreciation of engaged German businesses for what they have earned through their enormous social engagement. Already by the 11th May more than 2,500 outstanding small and medium-sized businesses from all over Germany had been nominated by over
1,000 municipalities, associations and organisations fort he annually awarded Economics and Media Prize "Grand Prix of small and medium-sized businesses". Criteria for this nomination are the overall development of the company, the creation and securing of work and training places, modernisation and innovation, service/closeness to customers as well as engagement in the region. The town of Porta Westfalica was also called upon by the foundation to nominate a business from the region, which has performed above average
in these areas. The choice by those responsible for this fell for the second time on ATB Umwelttechologien GmbH, which has been in existence since 1999 and which, with its AQUAmax wastewater treatment plant systems , in the meantime belongs to Europe's leading manufacturers in this sector. After the more than 2,500 companies had been through the different agencies and had been tested from top to bottom by various juries, there remained country-wide, only 50 companies from which, on 10 September, in the renowned Maritim Hotel in Cologne, a number were honoured within the framework of a festive gala event with the award of the much sought after trophy and title: Finalist for the "Grand Prix of small and medium-sized businesses". As sole manufacturer of wastewater technology and wastewater treatment plants systems the
East Westphalian business ATB Umwelttechnologien GmbH from Porta Westfalica received this hotly contested title - and thus belongs not only to the first class of the complete wastewater branch but also to the leading and most innovative mid-sized companies in the whole of the Federal republic of Germany.
